Workers lament high transportation costs

President Bola Tinubu announced an end to the petrol subsidy regime during his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, which shot the pump price from N165 to N617 per litre in June last year.

The government reviewed petrol pump prices upward to between N865 and N1,300 per litre in early September.

Muhammed said, “The Federal and State Governments should introduce measures that would ease the burden on workers. The recent fuel price hike has already undermined the value of the new N70,000 minimum wage.”

He stressed that the welfare of civil servants was crucial at this time, noting that the focus should not be on celebrating the N70,000 minimum wage, but rather on ensuring that palliative measures were swiftly implemented to cushion the effects of the fuel hike.

Muhammed added that would provide Nigerian workers with much-needed relief and support in the current economic climate.
