In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ajayi, highlighted the significance of the occasion. He said, “I would like to welcome the 636 matriculants of today, comprising our young undergraduates and part-time students as they formally begin their tertiary level quest for life-empowering knowledge, and our postgraduate students who are here to delve deeper into the well of knowledge in their chosen fields of study.”
He continued, “The University is a highly regulated academic environment, and the matriculation ceremony remains the formal rite-of-passage which each student must undergo to be formally accepted as a student of the university. It is, therefore, a great privilege for you to undergo the process today and to remind you that the whole essence of your coming into this institution is to prepare you for that particular future that providence has made ready for you.”
Ajayi emphasised the university’s commitment to academic excellence and timely graduation, saying, “Wellspring University is a learning environment where a made-ready faculty awaits made-ready students. We go about our duties here with the mindset that there is no time to waste. Coming here, you can readily project that you are leaving, all things being equal on your part and God forbidding any force majeure, in record graduation time with no downtime, no strike, or labor unrest.”
He added, “In the space of your course duration as undergraduates, you will have the opportunity to undergo life-changing academic training, cutting-edge ICT certification, and entrepreneurial training.”
Ajayi urged students to meet the high expectations of their parents and the nation, saying, “Your parents have high hopes that you will acquire life-changing skills and knowledge that will prepare you for a future life independent of them. Nigeria is expecting you to acquire skills and knowledge to contribute your quota to nation-building and find answers to the challenges bedeviling our political, social, and economic space.”
