UPDATED: Atlético Madrid sign Julián Álvarez from Man City

“Atletico Madrid and Manchester City have reached an agreement for the transfer of Julián Alvarez, who signs for our club until 2030. The 24-year-old Argentine, a full international with his country, is a versatile, fast, skilful striker with a great ability to associate with his teammates. He is also capable of playing as a playmaker.

“Formed in the lower categories of River Plate, where he arrived in 2016, Alvarez made his debut with the first team of the Argentine club on October 27, 2018. A few weeks later, he won the Copa Libertadores, entering during extra time of the final.

“He scored his first official goal on March 17, 2019 and, over the next few years, won the Cup, Super Cup, First Division and the Champions Trophy. In addition, he was the top scorer in the Argentine league in the 2020/21 season with 18 goals. He finished his time at River Plate with 54 goals and 31 assists in 122 games.”

Álvarez, born on January 31, 2000, in Calchín, Argentina, now moves to Madrid, where he’ll look to further his career under Diego Simeone in La Liga. He is a serial winner. It concluded, “In 2022, he was transferred to Manchester City, where he has won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, European Super Cup and a Club World Cup, a competition in which he was the top scorer with two goals. During his two seasons in England, he has played 103 games, in which he has scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists.

“He made his official debut with the Argentine national team on June 3, 2021. The following month, he was proclaimed champion of the Copa América. This title was followed by a Conmebol-UEFA Champions Cup and the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
