Unlocking New Horizons: NDC’s Strategic Push for Agricultural and Agribusiness Value Chain Transformation

Harry Ekow Yamson

Ghana’s agricultural and agribusiness sectors are on the cusp of a major transformation. With a comprehensive plan to drive economic growth, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is poised to reenergize these vital sectors through its Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA). This bold initiative is designed to modernize agriculture, promote agribusiness, and create robust value chain linkages—unlocking vast opportunities for private sector investment, innovation, and collaboration.

Building a Robust Value Chain Infrastructure

At the heart of the NDC’s strategy is the development of a resilient value chain infrastructure. The party envisions the establishment of Farmer Service Centres in every agricultural district, providing farmers with the latest equipment, technologies, and inputs. Complementing this will be the creation of Farm Banks within agricultural zones, ensuring farmers, particularly the youth, have access to land, irrigation facilities, and the financial support needed to expand their operations.

This strategy is not just about farming—it’s about laying the groundwork for a thriving agribusiness ecosystem. The NDC plans to back large-scale farming initiatives with both technical and financial assistance, creating fertile ground for agribusinesses to flourish.
