Toriola backs MTN CHAMPS to produce next Olympics medallists

The inaugural class of 20 athletes, comprising 18 MVPs and two wildcards from Seasons 1 and 2 of MTN CHAMPS, were selected to join the MoC Athletics Academy in Lagos.

According to the telecommunications company, MTN CHAMPS is a programme in Nigeria that aims to unearth and foster athletic talent nationwide.

The programme modelled after the Jamaican High School CHAMPS is poised to become the primary platform for identifying and nurturing promising athletes who could go on to represent Nigeria in prestigious international competitions such as the Olympics and World Championships.

While Team Nigeria failed to win a medal at the recently concluded Olympics in Paris, Toriola remained optimistic that with adequate preparations, the country would claim medals at the next Olympics through athletes from the academy.

“It is a tremendous honour to welcome everyone as we unveil and celebrate excellence and invest in the future of athletics in Nigeria,” he said.
