Swiss goalie Yann Sommer bids farewell to international football

His retirement announcement signals the end of a distinguished football career, defined by exceptional performances and unwavering dedication.

A Monday statement from the Swiss Football Association website disclosed this.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my career as the goalkeeper for the Swiss national team. It has been a great honour and privilege for me to represent my country at the highest level for twelve years, over 94 international matches,” he said.

“With the conclusion of a magnificent new final phase at the European Championship in neighbouring Germany, where I previously spent unforgettable years in the Bundesliga, the time has come for me to say goodbye,” he added.
