President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a special official funeral category 2 to honour Gordhan.
The family has requested that in lieu of floral tributes, mourners offer donations to charities of their choice, or to the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation.
The funeral service of late minister Pravin Gordhan will take place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban on Thursday, the Presidency said on Monday.
President Cyril Ramaphosa's spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, said the special official funeral category 2 service will start at 10:00.
"The special official funeral category 2 will entail ceremonial elements performed by the South African Police Service. The funeral service will be followed by a private cremation," said Magwenya.
