Pilot shortage looms, aircraft owners warn

He said, “A significant portion of the current aviation workforce is approaching retirement age. This natural attrition isn’t being offset by a sufficient influx of new qualified personnel.

“Becoming a pilot, ATC, or maintenance technician requires stringent and extensive training and certifications. The time and cost associated with training can be a barrier for potential candidates.

“In the Nigerian clime, there are serious challenges to getting experience even with the required education. Not only is there serious competition from other Industries with more attractive salaries, but benefits, and work-life balance, drawing talent away from aviation, potential aviation employees are also opting for other jobs due to barriers to entry.
