Operators hail judiciary for stopping Nigeria Air sale

This was contained in a statement signed by the President of the Association, Abdulmunaf Sarina, on Tuesday.

Sarina noted that the verdict of the court showed that the entire bidding, approval and unveiling processes of the planned national carrier were a sham set up to hoodwink Nigerians.

He further described the project as a surreptitious plan to kill Nigerian indigenous airlines and hand over the commonwealth of Nigeria’s huge aviation market with over 85 Bilateral Air Services Agreements around the world to Ethiopian Airlines through the back door.

It will be recalled that the plaintiffs in the matter, registered trustees of the Airline Operators of Nigeria and five other stakeholders namely, Azman Air Services Limited, Air Peace Limited, Max Air Limited, United Nigeria Airlines Company Limited, and Topbrass Aviation Limited had dragged the defendants, Nigeria Air Limited, Ethiopian Airlines; former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika; and former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to court, praying for an order to nullify the entire bidding and selection process for the Nigeria Air project, as well as the approval and selection of Ethiopian Airlines by the defendants.

The grouse of the airlines was their exclusion from the project and what they called a flawed bidding process.
