Speaking to reporters at Southampton’s Girona training camp, Martin said, “There’s been no transfer request as far as I know. If I get told anything different, I’ll tell you. But so far, no. He’s training hard; you’ve probably seen that yourself.”
The clarification comes amid swirling rumours in Turkish media suggesting ongoing negotiations between Southampton and interested clubs in Turkey, particularly Trabzonspor, where Onuachu enjoyed a successful loan spell last season.
Martin revealed that Southampton had indeed received a bid for Onuachu, but it fell short of the club’s valuation.
“We’ve had one bid for Paul, and it was nowhere near the valuation of the club,” he said.
The Daily Echo understands that the bid was in the region of £5 million, significantly below Southampton’s asking price.
