Eighteen years later, another Uche is set to take La Liga by storm following his impressive debut for Getafe in a thrilling 1-1 draw against Athletic Club at San Mames on Thursday.
The name on the lips of every Getafe fan at the edifice was Chrisantus Uche.
The Nigerian had a memorable debut for the Azulones in their first home game of the season, scoring a late equaliser, and he was lavishly celebrated.
His historic goal made him the youngest Nigerian to score on his La Liga debut at 21 years and 87 days, becoming the 23rd different Nigerian to score in the Spanish top flight.
Despite his young age, Uche has proven to have what it takes to play among the elite players, a fact accentuated by his performance against Athletic Bilbao.
