Mixed reactions on Bawumia’s promise to reduce cost of living

Tema, Aug. 22, GNA — Some residents of Ashaiman have expressed varied views on Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer’s announced plan to reduce the cost of living, as contained in the recent out-door election 2024 manifesto.

Madam Vida Owusu, a hairdresser speaking with the Ghana News Agency, expressed doubts about the promise, stating that the party has been in power for eight years, during which the cost of living has continuously risen.

Madam Owusu emphasised that the NPP’s record on economic management has been disappointing, with the party failing to address the root causes of the high cost of living.

She called on the party to provide a detailed explanation of how they plan to reduce the cost of living without compromising economic growth.

Ms Mary Adu, a trader, stressed the need for concrete actions rather than just words, saying the high cost of living has impacted negatively on businesses, making it difficult to make ends meet.
