MCE suggest use of Community Watch Committees to fight illegal mining

Toase (Ash) Oct 14, GNA – Mr Michael Amoah Awuku, Chief Executive of Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality Assembly, has suggested the use of Community Watchdog Committees to fight illegal mining and other negative environmental activities in communities.

He explained that community members lived in galamsey areas and could therefore, identify where and when illegal miners operate and thereby inform the security agencies for action.

He, therefore, entreated chiefs, assemblymembers and opinion leaders to consider and implement the idea to protect the environment and natural resources.

Mr Awuku was addressing a mini durbar at Toase in the municipality to inaugurate a block of 26 lockable stores built at a cost of GHC 999,527.00.
