Lottery steps in at 11th hour to help fund Team SA at Paris Olympics

A further R11.5-million has been given to the Paralympics team.

The grant was approved a few weeks before the Olympics because previous lottery grants to the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee have been squandered.

The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) has thrown a cash-strapped Team South Africa a last-minute multimillion-rand lifeline to boost their participation in the Paris Olympics, Ground Up reports.

But the almost R39.5-million, only approved less than three weeks before the Games began, comes with stringent conditions on how it must be used, the NLC told GroundUp.
