LASG reaffirms commitment to tennis development

“Through ongoing initiatives and competitions, LASG aims to provide children with the opportunities and resources needed to excel in the sport and contribute to the state’s rich athletic legacy,” he said.

Aare explained that the event was initiated in line with the Lagos State Governor’s focus on promoting entertainment and sports, noting that many young people struggle in tennis due to the lack of tournaments where they can compete.

“This shortage of competitive opportunities means that by the time these young athletes turn 14, they often lack the necessary tournament experience to pursue a professional career in the sport, making it much more challenging for them to advance,” Aare stated.

He added that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through this tournament is creating an opportunity for these children to compete.

“This is the third edition, and the winners of the first and second editions have already ranked among the top 100 in Africa and have begun participating in international competitions. We have a large youth population, and it is essential to keep them engaged. This tournament is one of the government’s efforts to keep them active and productive and help develop their minds while also allowing them to interact with their peers through lawn tennis, among other activities,” he added.
