Galamsey: Akufo-Addo's words and actions are inconsistent

Felicity Nelson

Social justice activist Felicity Nelson has criticised President Akufo-Addo for what she describes as inconsistencies between his words and actions in the fight against illegal mining, known as galamsey.

Speaking on JoyNews' *Newsfile* on Saturday, October 12, she pointed out that despite the president's strong rhetoric on protecting Ghana's environment, his government's actions have not matched his statements.

Madam Nelson referenced President Akufo-Addo's earlier remarks that he cares more about the next generation than the next election, suggesting that the president's commitment to safeguarding the environment for future generations is questionable.

She noted that while the president's words were meant to convey a sense of urgency in addressing environmental issues, the continued prevalence of galamsey indicates a lack of decisive action.
