FG partners firm on plastic action roadmap for Nigeria

The roadmap is set to be officially launched on October 17, 2024, in Abuja, by the Minister of Environment and Chair of the Nigeria NPAP, Mr Balarabe Lawal.

It noted that key stakeholders in the plastics value chain, including the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, and the World Bank, among others, will attend the event.

The statement disclosed that stakeholders from various sectors have worked together to develop a roadmap aimed at reducing, reusing, and regenerating plastics, tackling plastic pollution, and benefiting the value chain.

It noted that the roadmap was created using GPAP’s National Analysis and Modelling tool, with KPMG West Africa as the implementation partner.

According to the statement, stakeholder workshops informed a baseline analysis of plastic flows in Nigeria and enabled scenario modelling to assess the economic, environmental, and social impacts of different plastic pathways. Ultimately, these workshops identified effective strategies and outlined the steps needed for implementation.
