FG eyes four million jobs with science, tech

He noted that the initiative also aligned with the government’s efforts to achieve 50 per cent local content in the ICT sector through the National Information Technology Development Agency.

He added that the strategy aims to promote indigenous participation, drive economic growth, and foster a knowledge-based economy in Nigeria by enhancing local manufacturing, research and development, and the employment of Nigerian engineers in the ICT sector.

The minister said the strategy was expected to boost global acceptance of Nigerian raw materials, products, and services, thereby improving the country’s competitiveness.

“Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, has said that the Federal Government will create 4.4 million jobs through the implementation of the national strategy for competitiveness in raw material and product development in Nigeria,” part of the statement read.

Nnaji stated that the implementation of the national strategy will not only enhance the creation of employment and the quest for economic diversification but will also boost local content in manufacturing to 50 per cent and 80 per cent respectively.
