Eagles struggle for goals without Osimhen

With Victor Boniface and Taiwo Awoniyi developing cold feet in front of goal and failing to keep the Libya backline on the back as Osimhen would have done, it was a midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who saved the Nigerians’ blushes three minutes from regulation time.

This is against the backdrop of interim coach Augustine Eguavoen reposing confidence in the available option in the pre-match conference, and the former Nigeria defender was let down big time.

He was confident that Victor Osimhen’s absence wouldn’t be a problem, backing Boniface, Awoniyi, and Kelechi Iheanacho to deliver the goods.

He said, “The boys are ready to fight for those three points. Every second counts, and we know what it means to get the job done and over with as early as possible. It’s (Osimhen’s absence) a huge miss… but we have other players who can step into his shoes.”

Boniface, who has been in fine form for Bayer Leverkusen, was unable to replicate his club performances for the national team, extending his goal drought with the Eagles to eight games.
