The release read, ”It has come to our attention that a team impersonating Gateway FC recently played a match against Al Merrikh and suffered a 13-1 defeat. We wish to clarify that Gateway United FC had no involvement in this match. This was an illegal use of our club’s name and logo, and we were not aware of or associated with this event in any capacity.
“For the record, Gateway United Football Club of Ogun State, with its secretariat at MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, had no participation or knowledge of the said match.

We hereby warn anyone or any organisation impersonating Gateway United FC to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law. Furthermore, we demand that Al Merrikh pull down our logo from their website and social media channels immediately.
